It is impossible for detectives to personally discuss each and every case with all crime victims. A detective will not routinely contact you, unless the detective requires additional information. Your report will be evaluated by the Detective Division to determine if the case will be assigned to a detective. This determination is based on the following “Solvability Guidelines:”
- Suspect Named, known or Identified.
- Investigative leads that can lead to an arrest.
- Likelihood that an arrest will be made.
If there are 1) no suspects, 2) no investigative leads or 3) little likelihood of arrest, the case will NOT be assigned.
If your report is a “Non Injury Hit & Run” or a “Non Injury Accident” be advised your report will not be investigated. You must report your accident directly to the California Department of Motor Vehicles (you can download the form at http://www.dmv.ca.gov/forms/sr/sr1.pdf).
